How to play

First, how Wordle colors work

In Wordle, you enter a five-letter word. The game colors each letter to show how it relates to a hidden answer:

AGreen: the letter is correct and already in the right spot.
RYellow: the letter is in the answer, but it belongs in a different spot.
EGray: the answer does not use that letter.

Speedle flips the idea

Speedle gives you the colored word first. Your job is to make any valid five-letter word that would produce exactly those same colors.

There is no single hidden answer. Multiple words can be correct. Speedle calculates the colors produced by your guess and compares that pattern directly with the Hint row.

Example hint

C R A N E

ALARM works: A stays third, R moves, and C, N, and E are not used.

Your three rounds

  • Easy: two green letters lock in positions, and one yellow gives another letter to place.
  • Medium: one green letter locks in a position, while two yellow letters still need to be moved.
  • Hard: three yellow letters belong in the word, but none are shown in their correct positions.
  • Each clue has at least four known common answers. This clearer difficulty system starts with Speedle #32.

You get exactly one submitted guess in each round. You cannot submit fewer than five letters. A submitted five-letter entry that is not a real word uses that guess and loses the round.

Controls and useful details

  • The keyboard mirrors the hint: green keys are fixed in place, yellow keys belong elsewhere, and dark-gray keys are not used in the answer.
  • On a phone, use the on-screen keyboard. It will not open the phone keyboard.
  • On desktop, you can type letters and use Backspace and Enter. After a round result appears, press Enter again to continue.
  • The on-screen Enter key also becomes Next or Results after each round.
  • The timer is a stopwatch. It runs only while you are solving: it pauses in this menu and between rounds, then stops when you submit the Hard-round guess.
  • Logged-in players who clear all three rounds are ranked by total time on the daily leaderboard.
  • Your streak continues only when you clear all three rounds. Anything below 3/3 resets it.
  • Repeated letters follow normal Wordle counting. One yellow E and one gray E means the answer has one E, not two.
  • Everyone receives the same three rounds for the day. A new Speedle begins at midnight Central.
